sto Ministry of Finance of the United States released its latest currency report under the administration of President Donald Trump, reaffirming that none of America’s major trading partners have manipulated their currencies in the past year.

The latest report has expanded the “monitoring list” to nine countries and territories that warrant close attention, following the addition of Ireland and and Switzerland, while issuing a stern warning to China.

Although China was not labeled as a currency manipulator despite facing depreciation pressures, the US Treasury concluded that the world’s second-largest economy lacked transparency in its exchange rate policies and activities.

The US Department of the Treasury has identified China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland as the nine countries and territories under close surveillance for their foreign exchange policies.

To be included on this list, a country must meet specific criteria: a trade surplus with the US exceeding $15 billion, a a current account surplus above 3% of GDP, and persistent net foreign exchange purchases.

The latest report was released shortly after President Trump held his first telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping since returning to the White House, amid escalating trade tensions between the two world’s largest economies.

During his first term, President Trump had previously labeled China as a currency manipulator. However, in January 2020, the USnas Treasury removed China from this list following the signing of a trade agreement between the two nations.
